Homo Faber is a first major cultural exhibition dedicated to European craftsmanship. Highlighting the skills, knowledge and creativity of Europe’s finest artisans and designers Created by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, its first edition took place in Venice during September 2018. Duvelleroy was invited to present its know-how. For that special occasion, four unique hand-fans were created with master craftsmen. Anne Gelbard is a magician when it comes to textile. Renowned for her foiled metal leaves appliqué, spraying and colour pigmentation research, she imagined that this creation was like a piece of jewel forgotten in the Laguna for centuries and found by a lucky gondolier.
This unique piece combines several layers of tinted ribbon, oxidised to bring the illusion of passed time on a piece of jewel. The ribbons were then stiffened, pleated and mounted by the master fan-maker.
Tulle, silk decorated with pigment and copper. African ebony. Hand-fan height 9.8 inches. Width 18.1 inches.
