The Tango peninsula (nearby Kyoto) is the birthplace of an exceptional textile savoir-faire. The most famous of them is the Chirimen, a silk with a unique texture, made from twisted threads. This silk, along with other fabrics manufactured in the region, has been used for 300 years in the confection of kimonos.
To celebrate this unique know-how, the region of Tango has entrusted Duvelleroy with 6 weavings from different ateliers, in order to imagine one-of-a-kind hand-fans.

Yushisha is a traditional Tango Chirimen weaving company founded in the mid-Meiji period (1868 to 1912). The present company management, the fourth generation, re-discovered Fujifu, the fabric used in this creation. The Fujifu, woven with wisteria bark fibres, is the oldest Japanese fabric, now used in contemporary creations. The unique aspect of this fabric is enhanced by a staggered palmette shape. The « Palmettes » shape stands for non-pleated hand-fans, where each “palm” is tied to the other by a thread.
